Superheros Handing Out Condoms at Olympics

In hope to reduce unwanted results of unprotected sex, an advocate for safer community will be handing out over 250,000 condoms at the Olympics in Vancouver as the event unfolds.

Caped crusaders led by Captain Condom will march to the streets to distribute lubricants, lip balm, hand heaters and glow sticks along with the condoms. The organizers of the outreach organization called SafeGames 2010 will be handing out “safe kits” as well, both to the participants and visitors, as well as to the Vancouver locals. Among other giveaways would be DVDs, information cards, & also referrals to the city’s local service providers and resources.

Increased HIV Testing In South Africa

South Africa has one of the highest HIV infection rates in the world. It is believed that increase in testing is due to the South African awareness programs and campaigns. These were the findings of the second South African national HIV/AIDS 2009 survey. The survey was conducted in all nine provinces. The nationwide survey found that HIV testing has increased considerably (from 24% to 60%) over the year prior to the survey among South African men. There has been a dramatic increase in HIV testing, especially among males.

Durex Profits On The Rise

The addition of a new type of condoms and sex toys has lifted the growth in sales at Durex to a record 10%. SSL, the owner of the Durex brand, has promised further growth as it launched a new line of sex aids for men which will be available in Boots and Tesco.

At the beginning of this year the company backed out of talks to launch the Durex Play range of vibrators over concern of a conservative backlash. It would appear, however, that these kinds of products such as these are gradually gaining marketplace acceptance.

Condom Crackdown

PRAMPI Makara municipal and district health officials have said that they have renewed their crackdown on market vendors who were selling sexual enhancement drugs and condoms.

Four vendors were detained briefly following a raid, and police found hundreds of sexual enhancement drugs and condoms. Neither the drugs nor the condoms were illegal, the vendors had to be re educated by health officials about the risks associated with selling  condoms since many of them had expired expiration dates and the drugs should have been prescribed by doctors.
