Rubbers for Clubbers

I personally think this campaign is a brilliant idea! It encourages people to carry condoms whilst clubbing. In Bristol, if you carry condoms, in selected venues they let you jump the queue. There are 35 businesses altogether in the local area backing the campaign.

There are all sorts of businesses trying to help in different ways;

  • Taxi companies are offering condoms after 10:30pm to help those unprepared.
  • Hair salons providing hair refreshes at the clubs!
  • Football teams Bristol city and Bristol Rovers are supporting by having a replica kit packaging.

There are, yet again mixed responses to this campaign, many people think it is brilliant as it keeps young adults safe if caught unprepared. It will cut down STI’S and babies coming from one night stands. On the other hand, some responses are very negative, saying it is encouraging one night stands and sex in public.

The condoms are also in quirky fun wrappers, which also encourage purchase. There are designs such as a mock lollipop, aftershave samples, and replica sauce sachets, for disguise.

A teenage pregnancy co-ordinator says “it’s all about normalising condoms, if it’s normal to get them at the hairdressers and at the bar then it will no longer be embarrassing, also just because you have condoms with you doesn’t mean you have to have sex, its just being prepared for that moment.” She also states “we are doing a lot of work in Bristol to make condoms cool and normal to carry around”.

The campaign called “Got it covered” is a fresh idea to make contraception cool again and to lower the amount of teenage pregnancies and unwanted pregnancies. It is time something was done about the figures at the moment. The only thing left to say is I think this campaign should be world wide!
