Misguided teens believe that they are protected from pregnancy when engaging in oral sex. This belief may be somewhat accurate, but it poses an even greater danger than getting pregnant at 16. It is also sad that there are still plenty of adults who have the same belief, most of them have passed on such ignorant ideas and have put others at risk as well. Oral sex without the use of a condom poses a similar risk to unprotected vaginal and anal sex; especially when we’re talking about sexually transmitted diseases.
Pre-ejaculate from penises, though in small amounts, can cause viruses and other bacteria to enter the bloodstream through open mouth sores and cuts. Since condoms are not used, the mouth is exposed to bodily fluids. The same goes for vaginal oral sex, where there is an available stream of liquid that can go into the mouth. The risk goes both ways as boys and girls are vulnerable to STDs. Even if you don’t swallow, small amounts of liquid will remain in your mouth and blend with your saliva. Though the percentage is small, the chances of you getting infected with sexually transmitted diseases are quite significant. One must remember that there are some kinds of STDs that cannot be cured.
Using condoms during oral sex may not be as pleasurable, but it will keep you safe from bacterial and viral infections that can be transmitted. Herpes could be one of the most common STDs that can be transmitted through oral sex and there is no known cure for it. It will remain in your body for the rest of your life, and you could have at least 3-4 herpes outbreaks per year. There is also Chlamydia, which can move from one person to another through oral-genital sex; and has been known to cause chlamydial eye infection. HIV may be the worst viral infection you can catch through oral sex. AIDS has infected and killed millions of people worldwide as it is untreatable. Other kinds of STDs that can be transmitted through oral sex are Syphilis, Gonorrhea, HPV and Hepatitis B & C. Some viral infections will remain in your body for the rest of your life and you can infect other people if you do not use some protection, like Durex condoms. Bacterial infections are curable, but they give much discomfort to impure individuals.
As more and more people are engaging in promiscuous oral sex without using condoms, it is quite possible that some of them have been or may be infected with these viruses. Trust may become an issue, but when it comes to life threatening diseases and STDs, it is better to be sure that your partner is healthy. Always ask if the males have religiously used condoms in the past, or better yet always use protection with a new partner. An individual may carry a virus or a bacteria and they may not even know it, so be wary of whom you come into sexual contact with; whether vaginal, anal or oral.
